Owls symbolise wisdom and knowledge; things that light up the darkness of ignorance, for owls can see in and move through the dark with ease. Athene, the Greek goddess of wisdom had an owl as a constant companion. And who could not love "Wol" - from the tales of Winnie the Pooh - who could spell, and to whom others went for advice? The Little Owl is the smallest of the owls found in the British Isles, and one that comes out during the day as well as at night. Its Latin name is Athene noctua; a reference to the goddess of wisdom and knowledge.
Candles, too, light up the darkness. It is said that in perfect darkness, you can see the flame of a single candle from a mile away. From the time man learned how to make and control fire, candles have been used in one form or another, for light, heat and celebration. But candles have a far wider range of use than just the mundane. They are used ritually in religious ceremonies to symbolise the inner presence of the divine. They are used magically, lit with intent to effect a willed outcome. A candle-lit dinner is the epitome of romance, and no childŐs birthday cake would be complete without the right number of candles, waiting to be blown out so a wish can be made.
Little Owl specialises in candles with a difference. Candles to make a difference.
Wiccans, Hoodoo practitioners and workers of magick and healing have found what they are looking for here: good quality candles; coloured all the way through, made with essential oils, blended with beeswax; candles made with care and attention. Others simply like the candles for their clean burn, and the knowledge that their candles have been individually made for them.
There are lots of places to buy candles: cheap mass-produced candles, dipped to give only a thin coating of colour, with synthetic chemical fragrances... but this isn't one of them!
