Candle-making hugely successful

Little-Owl Candles led a hugely successful workshop at Treadwell's bookshop on 28th October.

The venue was packed with would-be chandlers from all areas of interest, each of whom had the opportunity to make and take home a hand-dipped pure beeswax candle, and a sexy solid-black moulded one (just in time for Hallowe'en).

The morning session included safety information as well as the essential information needed to choose and use various waxes for making candles.  Wicks were dipped and wax was poured to much laughter and learning.

The afternoon was given over to experimenting with ways to produce candles in the kitchen with only the basic equipment - wax, saucepans, turkey-basters, yoghurt pots and methods of dyeing.  Some lovely chunky candles were made by the red and blue teams (the green team excelled in melting their moulds rather than filling them), and everyone left with (at least) one candle and the confidence to try making their own basic candles at home.

We were all so engrossed in the activities that the photographer actually forgot to take any photos!

Big thanks go to Christina of Treadwell's for hosting the workshop, and to Paul and Lily of Woodmoss, for all their help during the day.
